Counter Strike vs Dota

This is not a Game review..(555)




Counter strike is a first person shooter kind of thing where it has a feeling that you’re the one being the character inside the game.

On the other hand, Dota (Warcraft) is a strategy game where you’re controlling the character from above. See the difference?

Okay it’s not about the game I’m trying to point out. It’s the character of person whose playing it. From my observation throughout the “Teja ” (it’s a Game tournament at my campus), there a huge contrast between those who’s playing Counter Strike and Dota. The most obvious one is, Malay is playing Counter Strike and Chinese playing Dota.

So what’s the inference can be drawn from these phenomenon? Malay loves to be the one who execute the plan whereas Chinese love to take control, do the planning kind of thing. Don’t believe me?? Up to you cuz again it’s just my thought..

It wasn’t my intention to judge anyone. It is just a typical me who love to came out with conclusion though it always turn out to be totally wrong. But let’s face it, this time around, i think i got it right Malay don’t like to take charge. They will be satisfied with just being a sidekick unlike Chinese, they loves to be the mastermind.

Okay this is not true for every single Malay for some of us loves to take charge (Politikus bodoh, MPP as****si). Fill in the asterisk yourself, you knew it.

So, from game, you can interpret the character of one person (don’t judge a book by its cover not apply here…). Next time watch out what you’re playing, there might be someone like me around observing. Happy Gaming and Have a Good Weekend…

INSTALLING REIGN OF CHAOS

Installing Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

First, place the CD in your CD drive. Open My Computer (if you're using Windows), click on the icon of the CD, and install it.

Step 1

Click "Install Warcraft III" when the Warcraft III Setup opens.

Follow the instructions given afterwards. Accept the Terms of Agreement, after reading it definitely, and proceed to the next page.

Step 2

Enter your name and unique CD Key. I'll be entering an example name and my own CD Key as an example, but I covered it for privacy. I didn't cover the "example" name, of course. Click OK.

The CD Key can be only be legally found at the box of your Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.


Step 3

Enter the installation directory. It's best to leave it as it is. Click OK.


Step 4

Installation will now begin. It will take several seconds, so wait a while. After a few minutes, it should be done.

Step 5

After successfully installing, it will prompt you to place a desktop shortcut. Not necessary, because you'll be playing Frozen Throne, not this.



INSTALLING FROZEN THRONE

Installing Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

You just installed Reign of Chaos. Take its CD out, place the TFT CD, and let's install The Frozen Throne.

Step 1

Click "Install Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne" when the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne Setup opens.

Again, accept the terms of Agreement, after reading it. This will lead you to the CD Key page.



Step 2

Enter your CD Key. Click OK.
The CD Key can be only be legally found at the box of your Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.


Step 3

  • Wait for the installation to finish successfully. Grab a Pepsi now, and drink up.


Step 4

Now this time, you'd want to create a desktop shortcut. Click Yes.



UPDATING THE PATCH

Updating The Patch

Let's now update our patch to the latest one.
Updating the patch is very necessary. To get the latest patch, go to http://www.getdota.com/patch



You need to the download the full patch because you're starting from the very beginning. The patch version can be seen at the bottom-right corner of the opening menu when you start the game.



Once you have downloaded your patch, it's time to install it.

Step 1
Open the patch you downloaded. It will do it's job after. When it's done, click OK. Uncheck the box if you want.



Note: When the patch starts installing, the screen will turn black. Then it will install by itself. After it's done, the screen will go back to normal.
The good thing about patch 1.22a, is that you don't need a CD to play the game (it has actually been this way since 1.21b).

Congratulations! You now have the latest patch for DotA. It is 1.22a as of now. Refer to the changelog made by this update for more info.

DOWNLOADING THE LATEST MAP FOR DOTA

Downloading the Latest Map for DotA

You can get new maps at this site. The latest is 6.57b, which is also the current stable map.

Step 1

Go here and download the latest map.

Step 2

If you're using Mozilla FireFox, choose to Save the File. You can't open it.

Step 3

Transfer the file to your Warcraft directory. Default directory is: C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Maps\Download


The default directory is very important. Any tampering with it will have effects on Garena and downloading from Warcraft, especially when playing with others.

Congratulations! You now have the latest map for DotA. It is 6.57b as of now.

Playing DotA

You can now play DotA.

But you have to adjust a few things as well. That's where Options comes into the picture. Click Options on the Main Menu (4th button from the top).

Step 1

Adjust your VIDEO Settings.


GAMMA: Brightens or darkens up a screen.
RESOLUTION: I find the 1024x768x16 Resolution fitting for my monitor. If you have a bigger monitor, select a bigger resolution. A bigger resolution means a more detailed screen.
MODEL DETAIL: Defines how detailed model units can be.
ANIMATION QUALITY: Enhances animation, i.e. attacks and some effects.
TEXTURE QUALITY: Improves the overall texture, from the menus, the terrain and the models. Medium allows you to read the loadscreen.
PARTICLES: Enhances detail of other objects and doodads.
LIGHTS: Sets how light affects everything.
UNIT SHADOWS: This must be on to ensure good gameplay.
OCCLUSION: Determines how an object can be hidden by other objects. Best set to On. This also allows -weather effects.
SPELL DETAIL: This must be set to High at all times, for me. If it is set to Low, you will find it hard to notice when spells are around.

Step 2

Set your GAMEPLAY Settings.


The only things needed to tamper with here are:
MOUSE SCROLL: How sensitive do you want your cursor to be?
KEYBOARD SCROLL: Same here, but with the keyboard.
ALWAYS SHOW HEALTH BARS: As of 1.22a, health bars can now be permanent.
AUTOMATICALLY SAVE REPLAYS: This feature automatically saves replays inside your replays folder.

Step 3

Configure your SOUND Settings. Do what you want here.



Step 4
Now just go online and join a dota game!

* Fixed some rare memory corruption bugs that could cause random abilities/items to malfunction or result in a fatal error
* Added a new subtle cooldown effect to make it a little clearer when spells are in cooldown and when they finish. This is mainly for long cooldown spells where it is sometimes difficult to tell. Demonic Conversion:=====================Splits any non-hero unit into three Eidolons, killing the targeted unit.Eidolon’s can duplicate themselves once whenever they attack 6 times.Lesser Eidolon/Eidolon/Greater Eidolon/Dire Eidolon (Same as before)Cooldown: 35Manacost: 170Notes: It cannot target Level 5+ Neutral Creeps
Experimental Runes====================This temporary mode changes the rune system to a more experimental one. I will be changing how -er works from version to version to try out different ideas. I don’t plan on any one version of the new runes to replace the current system directly, so do not panic Well Instead, it will be used as something to create discussion, spark ideas, find flaws and playtest different concepts over time.How -er works for this version: Runes spawn simultaneously on both sides at 3 minute intervals (instead of 2). Again I have no plans to make this permanant.Notes: I wanted to release this sooner rather than later because of some important code fixes. I am planning on finishing the traditional .x9 quest for v6.59b (along with some more balance tweaks) and then followed by TC in 6.60 if everythings work out right.Enjoy– IceFrog

About AI by BuffMePlz:
This is a port of RGB’s AI+ v1.52 (originally written for DotA Allstars 6.48b).
It behaves the same as the original AI, and has only been updated to account for balance changes, new item recipes, and most new features. As such, some new content does not work fully with the AI yet.
THERE IS NO AI FOR LIFESTEALER, INVOKER, OR CLOCKWERK GOBLIN. THEY WILL GET ITEMS BUT WILL NEITHER USE NOR LEARN THEIR SKILLS.
Known bugs with AI:-AI don’t properly react to -nb, -nm and -nt modes-Some exploits that should have been fixed are still in the game…just don’t use them. If you really want to cheat against AI, just use -test
Some commands have yet to be implemented properly:-ah-afk-kickafk-rd (the new one in 6.53, -rd is in the game but done the same way pre-6.53)-cm
Additionally, I have added two Fun Taverns in the lower right corner. Currently includes fifteen legacy heroes (possibly more in the future): Old Invoker (6.12b), Old Lifestealer (6.48b), Old Silencer (6.12b), Gambler (6.06), Old Morphling (5.84b), Old Stealth Assassin (5.84b), Old Pudge (5.51), Old Chen (5.64), Old Medusa (5.84b), Void Demon (3.0d), Rider (5.72), God of Wind (6.01), Flame Lord (5.51), Avatar of Vengeance (6.32b), and Astral Trekker (3.0d).
To access the fun taverns, type -fun within the first 15 seconds of the game. Note that Fun Tavern heroes do not have AI scripts and will not buy items or use/learn skills.

About AI by BuffMePlz:
This is a port of RGB’s AI+ v1.52 (originally written for DotA Allstars 6.48b).
It behaves the same as the original AI, and has only been updated to account for balance changes, new item recipes, and most new features. As such, some new content does not work fully with the AI yet.
THERE IS NO AI FOR LIFESTEALER, INVOKER, OR CLOCKWERK GOBLIN. THEY WILL GET ITEMS BUT WILL NEITHER USE NOR LEARN THEIR SKILLS.
Known bugs with AI:-AI don’t properly react to -nb, -nm and -nt modes-Some exploits that should have been fixed are still in the game…just don’t use them. If you really want to cheat against AI, just use -test
Some commands have yet to be implemented properly:-ah-afk-kickafk-rd (the new one in 6.53, -rd is in the game but done the same way pre-6.53)-cm
Additionally, I have added two Fun Taverns in the lower right corner. Currently includes fifteen legacy heroes (possibly more in the future): Old Invoker (6.12b), Old Lifestealer (6.48b), Old Silencer (6.12b), Gambler (6.06), Old Morphling (5.84b), Old Stealth Assassin (5.84b), Old Pudge (5.51), Old Chen (5.64), Old Medusa (5.84b), Void Demon (3.0d), Rider (5.72), God of Wind (6.01), Flame Lord (5.51), Avatar of Vengeance (6.32b), and Astral Trekker (3.0d).
To access the fun taverns, type -fun within the first 15 seconds of the game. Note that Fun Tavern heroes do not have AI scripts and will not buy items or use/learn skills.

If you really want to cheat against AI, just use -test-Lanaya may crash your game if you use her, depending on how lucky you are
Some commands have yet to be implemented properly:-ah-afk-kickafk-rd (the new one in 6.53, -rd is in the game but done the same way pre-6.53)
Additionally, I have added two Fun Taverns in the lower right corner. Currently includes nine legacy heroes (possibly more in the future): Old Invoker (6.12b), Old Lifestealer (6.48b), Old Silencer (6.12b), Gambler (6.06), Old Morphling (5.84b), Old Stealth Assassin (5.84b), Void Demon (3.0d), Rider (5.72), and God of Wind (6.01).
To access the fun taverns, type -fun within the first 15 seconds of the game.
